Gene Elberta was discovered by California nurseryman Gene Fowler over 50 years ago. Besides ripening earlier than standard Elberta, we have found Gene Elberta to be slightly sweeter with excellent flavor. The one drawback is that the pits are not quite as easy to get out as in standard Elberta. Still, many of us think that the flavor is worth it!
